About the Project
Contract A
Highway 401 / Wilson Road Overpass:
Involves the replacement of Highway 401 / Wilson Road overpass including the lowering of Wilson Road and improvements to the associated embankments, retaining walls, noise barriers, drainage, illumination, and signage to facilitate the replacement.
Contract B
Highway 401 Bloor Street / Harmony Road Interchange:
Involves the reconstruction of the Highway 401 Bloor Street / Harmony Road interchange, including the replacement of the Bloor Street Underpass and the Highway 401 / Farewell Creek Bridge, a new structure over Highway 401 to accommodate the reconfigured Highway 401 eastbound off and on-ramps, as well as improvements to retaining walls, noise barriers, drainage, illumination, traffic signals and signage to accommodate the reconfiguration of the interchange.
The two contracts are proceeding along different design and construction timelines and will therefore each follow a separate MTO Class EA Group B process. A Design and Construction Report will be prepared for each contract which will be made available for comments at a future date.
Study Map
The Recommended Plan for the above-noted improvements was established through the Preliminary Design and EA Study (Group ‘B’) completed by the Ministry in 2015 for the segment of Highway 401 extending from Brock Road to Courtice Road and as documented in the Highway 401 Rehabilitation and Long-Term Widening Needs from Brock Road to Courtice Road Transportation Environmental Study Report (AECOM, 2015).
Durham Region Bloor St. Realignment/Widening
The work is also being coordinated with the Region of Durham’s detail design for the planned realignment and widening of Bloor Street from east of Harmony Road to Grandview Street. The Region of Durham completed the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment in May 2022 for the above noted improvements.
